Resort Profile For Engelberg

Short stay heaven with a fantastic off-piste and great party scene

Best known for it’s spectacular off-piste, Engelberg has become a free-riders Mecca. The Laub and the Galtiburg runs are world class.

The pisted slopes are fairly limited but have benefited from recent investment. However, there is little to occupy beginners and intermediates for anything longer thank a short break.

The resort is fairly large with some lovely traditional buildings and good range of bars and restaurants. It can be rather quiet mid-week, but it’s proximity to Zurich ensures a lively transformation at weekends.

Resort Pros

  • Good transfer form Zurich.
  • Legendary off-piste.
  • Lively resort with great après-ski.
  • Family friendly.

Resort Cons

  • Relatively close proximity to Zurich means a lot of weekend visitors.
  • Most lifts are a bus ride away from the village.
  • Although most of the runs are reds, most are challenging and not ideal for average intermediates.
  • Fragmented layout of pistes means it can take a lot of time to get around the slopes.

Best For

  • Advanced skiers looking mainly for off-piste.
  • Party Goers.

Worst For

  • Beginners.
  • Intermediates.

SlopeSeeker Tips

The Laub is a mecca for off-piste. Not ideal for intermediates but the long blue from Schonegg is your best bet for a long cruising run.
