New York Times Praises Crans-Montana
23/01/2012
In its
6 January 2012 edition, The New York Times has selected Crans-Montana amongst “the 45 places to go in 2012”. Crans-Montana, the Swiss alpine destination located in the Valais State, is the only destination in Switzerland to be granted this prestigious recognition by the New York Times.
Crans-Montana is praised by The New York Times for its prime location “on a sunny south facing plateau” offering “panoramic views of the Matterhorn and The Mont Blanc”, and for its “upmarket designer shops, five-star hotels, Michelin-starred dining and 87 miles of downhill slopes”. “With more than 250 boutiques, 60 restaurants and 30 hotels, Crans-Montana isn’t lacking for après-ski activities”.
“The mountain resort is also celebrated for being the host of the Omega European Masters, among Europe’s largest golf events, every September at one of the highest 18-hole golf courses in the Alps, the Severiano Ballesteros. Last year, the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club opened the first year-round high-altitude European golf training centre so avid duffers can practice their swing despite the snow” adds The New York Times. Not to forget “Sion airport, about 19 miles from the resort… making it easier to be on the slopes within an hour of stepping off the plane”.
“We are flattered and very happy about this selection for 2012 by The New York Times, which acknowledges the emergence of Crans-Montana on the international scene. This recognition is paying tribute to the efforts of our destination in making quality its hallmark and its promotion on a worldwide scale a strategic priority” comments Philippe Rubod, CEO of Crans-Montana Tourist Board.
