Resort Profile For Sestriere
High, snow-sure resort, forming part of the Milky Way Ski Area
Sestriere was Europe’s first purpose built resort and it’s high altitude, north-west-facing aspect guarantee more snow than other Italian resorts.
Forming part of the Milky Way Ski Area, Sestriere has access to over 400km of varied slopes which will appeal mainly to intermediates. Most pistes are a mix of long cruising slopes and pretty tree-lined runs, but varied enough to keep most interested. However, it is a popular ski area and lifts and pistes can get very crowded.
The resort itself has a purpose built feel and lacks Alpine charm. The accommodation is mainly split between four distinct areas and can lead to a fair walk to the lifts. This said, Sestriere is a popular ski resort with a friendly atmosphere and relatively good value for money.
Resort Pros
- Extensive ski area, particularly suited to beginners and intermediates.
- Part of the Milky Way ski area with a little more for Advanced skiers than most neighbouring resorts.
Resort Cons
- Purpose built resort.
- Lacking in Alpine charm.
- Weekend crowds.
Best For
- High mileage, cruising intermediates.
- Beginners.
- Mixed ability groups/families.
Worst For
- Non-skiers.
- Those looking for Alpine charm.
