Resort Profile For Sauze d'Oulx
A good value busy resort with extensive skiing and lively atmosphere
Sauze d’Oulx is one of the five resorts which form the massive Milky Way ski area. Situated high in the Susa Valley, it is renowned for its varied skiing, long sunny days and lively après-ski. The Milky Way ski area has 400km of varied slopes which will appeal to intermediates. Most pistes are a mix of long cruising slopes and pretty tree-lined runs, but varied enough to keep most interested. However, it is a popular ski area and lifts and pistes can get very crowded. It can also suffer from poor conditions in late season. The village is pretty enough, but consists of mainly modern buildings and lacks traditional Alpine charm. The old village centre does have a more traditional feel and benefits from being car-free. Here you will find most bars and clubs. A good mix of accommodation is spread throughout the resort, offering good value for money.
Resort Pros
- Extensive ski area, particularly suited to beginners and intermediates.
- Good value for money accommodation, bars and restaurants.
- Relatively uncrowded.
- Excellent tree-lined skiing.
- Linked to the Milky Way ski area.
- Lively nightlife.
Resort Cons
- Can get very crowded at weekends.
- Snow can be unreliable, especially in late season.
- Access to most lifts is via an unreliable, pay as you use, bus service.
- Many old lifts.
Best For
- Beginners.
- Intermediates.
- Mixed ability groups.
- Party Goers.
- Those on a budget.
Worst For
- Late season trips.
- Families (although some efforts are being made to bring some balance to the wilder side of the party scene).
SlopeSeeker Tips
It can get very crowded at weekends so head for the quieter slopes on Monte Genervis. Montgenevre is also worth a day trip.
