Resort Profile For Serre Chevalier

High, sunny and family friendly

Serre Chevalier is a major ski area without a major profile. The resort consists of the town of Briançon, together with the villages of Chantemerle, Villeneuve, and Le Monêtier-les-Bains (other small satellite villages are also grouped under the resort banner). Situated high in the southern French Alpes, Serre Chevalier is best known for the extent of its ski area (250km of slopes) and very sunny weather, boasting 300 days of sunshine a year. It also has a suprising number of trees for a high resort which provide for spectacular mountain scenery. It rightly has a friendly more laidback reputation when compared to its more northerly 'big' ski areas. On the downside, the resport is spread between the four main centres and as such lacks a focus for apres-ski. Travel between the villages can be troublesome and choose your accommodation carefully as you could have a small commute to the slopes or be situated next to the sometimes noisy Route Nationale.

Resort Pros

  • Variety and extent of the ski area.
  • Relatively uncrowded, long cruising pistes.
  • Attractive wooded runs.
  • Good value for money accomodation, bars and restaurants for a French resort

Resort Cons

  • Can get very crowded during French holidays.
  • Limited nightlife

Best For

  • Families or groups of mixed abilities.

Worst For

  • Party Goers.

SlopeSeeker Tips

Eat lunch early and enjoy uncrowded pistes between 12 - 3pm
