Resort Profile For Les Deux Alpes
A lively 'something for everyone' resort
Situated at high altitude in the picturesque Dauphine range in the Southern Alps, Les Deux Alpes has a well deserved reputation as one of the best 'something for everyone' ski areas. The resort has recently attracted a younger, livelier crowd, creating a good après-ski scene. However, Les Deux Alpes has retained its friendly atmosphere and has plenty to offer families with a great variety of shops, a heated outdoor pool and an ice rink. On the down side, the village has grown in to a sprawling linear resort with some unattractive architecture. However, the resort is well served with a free bus service and most recent developments have been well planned and offer good value accommodation.
Resort Pros
- The gorgeous scenery especially towards the Ecrins peaks.
- Great mix of high, fairly snow-sure runs, including the glacier.
- Good off-piste, especially using the link to La Grave.
- Value for money.
- Better than expected nightlife.
Resort Cons
- Crowded slopes during the high season.
- Sporadic resort, lacking a central focus.
- No woodland runs for bad weather days
Best For
- Mixed ability families.
- Advanced skiers (especially off-piste at La Grave).
- Partying on a budget
Worst For
- Those looking for Alpine charm
SlopeSeeker Tips
Check out the terrain park. Head for La Grave for off-piste (a guide is advisable!). Get there early if there is powder - it won't last for long!
