Resort Profile For Chamonix

The extreme skiing capital of the Alps

A popular, traditional resort set at the foot of Mont Blanc. Chamonix has a reputation as the extreme skiing capital of the Alps. An off-piste paradise, the vast Chamonix Valley cuts through some of Europe’s highest mountains with massive vertical descents and breath taking scenery. For those that prefer pisted slopes, the package is not so appealing. The ski area is spread over 5 separate areas with lots of stop start skiing and plenty of commuting between areas. The resort itself is a busy all year round town with great shops, bars, restaurants and a lively après-ski scene.

Resort Pros

  • Some of the most scenic skiing in the Alps.
  • World class, challenging terrain - especially off-piste.
  • Lively Apres Ski.
  • Short transfer from Geneva.

Resort Cons

  • Fractured nature of skiing spread over 5 mountains.
  • Limited variation in pistes, especially for intermediaries and beginners.
  • Busy town with heavy traffic

Best For

  • Experts.
  • Weekend trips.
  • Party Goers

Worst For

  • Mixed ability families (you will end up dispersed all over the ski area).
  • Beginners
