Resort Profile For Avoriaz
A good fun, snow sure resort, ideally positioned to exploit the vast Portes du Soleil ski area
In our opinion, the most ideally situated of all the resorts that make up the Portes du Soleil ski area. A vast area covering resort villages in France and Switzerland with 650km of varied pistes. Great for all abilities but most notably for long cruising intermediate runs. A big hit with snowboarders since they built France’s first terrain park in 1993, the resort has developed a reputation for freestyle terrain for both snowboarders and skiers. Beginners are also well catered for with the Super-Morzine providing some of the best skiing for beginners in the Alps. Avoriaz also has one of the best snow records in France. However, the flip side to this is crowded pistes when the lower resorts are suffering from poor snow.
Resort Pros
- Great location, providing access to the main Portes du Soleil ski area.
- Snow sure, averaging 8m a season.
- Lots of ski-in, ski-out.
- Great parks and varied runs.
Resort Cons
- Limited nursery slopes.
- Crowded pistes during peak weeks.
- Limited choice of accommodation.
Best For
- Intermediaries.
- Advanced skiers and Snowboarders (on and off-piste).
Worst For
- Beginners.
- Non Skiers.
- Those looking for alpine charm
SlopeSeeker Tips
Head for the parks, especially the big air bag in La Chapelle. Take the Prodains cable car down to Morzine a night out.
