Resort Profile For Zell am See
Charming lakeside town with stunning views from the mountain, good skiing and lively après-ski
Zell am See ski resort in Austria is an attractive lake-side town with a charming, pedestrianised medieval centre. There is a great mix of accommodation and a lively but family friendly après-ski scene. The resort has most facilities that a small town requires which will suit most non-skiers. The atmosphere is good in the late season sun when the resort celebrates the end of season with its “Sun, Snow and Party Week”. The local ski area is accessed via lifts at Zell and Schuttdorf and provides fantastic views of the town, lake and surrounding valley. There are a good mix of runs but fairly limited in extent and skiers of all abilities will find the skiing quite repetitive. However, if you are willing to travel a short distance on the free shuttle bus, you can access the more varied slopes and glacier at Kaprun (included in your lift pass).
Resort Pros
- Picturesque lake-side resort.
- Scenic ski area with mainly tree-lined runs, offering great views down to the resport.
- Something for everyone après-ski.
- Family friendly with a pedestrianised medieval town centre.
- All year round skiing with the Kaprun glacier.
Resort Cons
- The lower slopes are vulnerable to the sun late in the season.
- Limited terrain for advanced skiers.
- The glacier at Kaprun can get very busy if the conditions at surrounding resorts are poor.
Best For
- Mixed ability families.
- Intermediates.
- Non skiers.
- Late season sun.
