Resort Profile For St Johann in Tirol
Relaxed Tirolean town
Great for beginners and intermediates.St. Johann lies in a valley basin between the mountain range of the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbüheler Horn. The slopes are mainly north facing, resulting in a good snow record. All but one of the runs are either Blue or Red making it an ideal base for beginners and intermediates. Advanced skiiers will find the local slopes limited but the 6 day lift pass provides access to 170km of slopes in the Schneewinkle ski area. The town has a pretty, pedestrianised centre where most of the bars and hotels are situated. It is however, a living town with busy traffic, a spread out feel and industrial estates on the outskirts. Most accommodation is a fair walk from the main lift, although some accommodation can be found closer. The mountain restaurants are good and locals seem to spend as much time eating and drinking as they do skiing.
Resort Pros
- Quality and choice of mountain restaurants.
- Family friendly with an attractive, pedestrianised town centre.
- Generally gentle slopes make it ideal for beginners and less adventurous intermediates.
Resort Cons
- Very little in the way of challenging terrain.
Best For
- Families.
- Beginners.
- Cruising intermediates.
SlopeSeeker Tips
Avoid the queues at the Harschbichl gondola by heading for the Bauernpenzing gondola at Oberndorf.
