Resort Profile For Kitzbuhel

Stylish scenic and sophisticated with varied terrain – it has everything but altitude

Kitzbuhel is a medieval mining town which developed in to one of the most recognised Austrian ski resorts, hosting the most famous of all downhill races – the Hahnenkamn. The ski area is an extensive mix of long open pistes and pretty tree-line runs. However, the snow on the lower slopes can be patchy due to the low altitude of the resort. The town is very stylish with a walled traffic free centre with cobbled streets and impressive buildings. There is a surprising choice of accommodation to suit all budgets, although the resort is not cheap. Five satellite villages provide more options for budget accommodation – Aurach is most popular.

Resort Pros

  • Charming medieval town centre.
  • Large and varied ski area ideal for intermediates.
  • Plenty to do off-slope.
  • Good range of affordable accommodation.

Resort Cons

  • The low altitude leaves the lower slopes vulnerable to poor snow conditions.
  • Limited on-piste challenge for Advanced skiers.

Best For

  • Intermediates.
  • Party goers.
  • Non Skiers.

Worst For

  • Guaranteed snow in late season.

SlopeSeeker Tips

Avoid the Pengelstein during the busy periods.
