Resort Profile For Alpbach

Chocolate box beauty but limited ski area

Alpbach is an extremely picturesque village nestled at the base of the Wiedersbergerhorn mountain. On a sunny day in good snow it is hard to imagine a more beautiful setting for skiing. The ski area is limited but well maintained and will suit most beginners and intermediates. Advanced skiers will find little challenge with very few off-piste opportunities. The village comprises of traditional chalets surrounding the medieval church. There is a good choice of accommodation and surprisingly good après-ski. However, most accommodation is a five minute free bus ride from the lifts.

Resort Pros

  • Probably the most picturesque village in Austria.
  • Relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Resort Cons

  • Limited ski area.
  • Most runs are a (free) bus ride away from the village.
  • Low altitude means the lower slopes can suffer from poor snow.

Best For

  • Probably the most picturesque village in Austria.
  • Relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Worst For

  • Advanced skiers.
  • Late season trips.

SlopeSeeker Tips

Head to the quieter Reith ski area on busy days.
